This Privacy Policy explains how PingPal (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile app and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
1.1 Account Information
Registration: Email address, password (securely hashed), date of birth, profile name
Profile details: Profile photo, bio, interests, preferences
Third-party sign-in: If you use Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email from those providers
1.2 Location & Activity Data
Location data: GPS coordinates when you create or view Pings (only when location services are enabled)
Ping activity: Pings you create or join, timestamps of activity
Chat messages: Messages you send within the app
App usage: Basic usage patterns and session information
1.3 Device Information
Basic device data: Device type, operating system version, app version
Unique identifiers: Device identifiers necessary for app functionality
1.4 Payment & Verification
Payment processing: Billing information processed securely through Stripe for premium features
Identity verification: For security purposes, Stripe may temporarily store verification photos for up to 7 days maximum. These photos are used solely for identity verification and fraud prevention, and are never shared with us or any third parties
1.5 User Content
Public content: Photos, comments, and other content you choose to share
Ratings and feedback: Kudos and ratings you give or receive

Support messages: When you contact us for help or feedback
Notifications: Your preferences for app notifications
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
- Core functionality: To provide Ping creation, location-based features, chat, and user matching
- Safety and security: To verify accounts, prevent fraud and abuse, and maintain a safe community
- Personalization: To show you relevant Pings and customize your experience
- Communication: To send you important updates, notifications, and support responses
- Email Marketing: To send you promotional emails, product updates, and marketing communications (with your consent, which you can withdraw anytime)
- Service improvement: To analyze usage patterns and improve app performance
- Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws and protect our legal rights
3. HOW WE SHARE YOUR DATA
3.1 Service Providers
We work with trusted service providers who help us operate the app:
- Google Firebase: For secure data storage and app infrastructure
- Stripe: For payment processing and identity verification
- Apple: For App Store services, in-app purchases, and Apple Sign-In integration
- Mapping services: For location features and geocoding
- Mailchimp: For email marketing communications (name and email address only)
3.2 What We Share
Public content: Information you choose to make public (like your profile and Pings) is visible to other users
Service providers: We share necessary information with our service providers under strict confidentiality agreements
Legal requirements: We may disclose information when required by law or to protect safety
3.3 What We Don't Share
Private messages: Your private conversations remain private
Verification photos: Identity verification photos are handled solely by Stripe and automatically deleted after 7 days
Personal data sale: We do not sell your personal information to anyone
Location without permission: Your location is only used when you actively engage with location features
4. DATA STORAGE & SECURITY
4.1 Where Your Data Lives
Your information is securely stored using Google Firebase cloud services with industry-standard security measures.
4.2 How Long We Keep Data
Active accounts: Profile and account data while your account is active
Usage data: Activity logs for up to 24 months
Verification photos: Maximum 7 days (handled by Stripe)
Deleted accounts: Data is permanently deleted when you delete your account
4.3 Security Measures
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest
Regular security monitoring and updates
Access controls limiting who can view your information
Secure payment processing through PCI-compliant providers
5. YOUR PRIVACY CONTROLS
5.1 Account Management
Update profile: Edit your information anytime in Settings
Delete account: Permanently delete your account and data through Settings > Account > Delete Account
Data export: Request a copy of your data by emailing privacy@pingpal.co
5.2 Location Controls
Location services: Control location access through your device settings
Location sharing: Choose when to share your location for Pings
5.3 Communication Preferences
Notifications: Manage notification settings in the app or device settings
Marketing: Opt out of promotional communications anytime. Unsubscribe from marketing emails anytime via the unsubscribe link in emails or by contacting privacy@pingpal.co

6. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
6.1 Age Requirements
PingPal is for users 18 years and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover we have collected information from a minor, we will delete it immediately.
6.2 International Users
PingPal is based in the United States. If you use our service from other countries, your information may be transferred to and processed in the U.S. We use appropriate safeguards to protect international data transfers.
6.3 California Privacy Rights
California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information we collect, delete personal information, and opt-out of sales (note: we don't sell personal information). Contact privacy@pingpal.co to exercise these rights.
